Wool Care

Untreated wool is to be washed as seldom as possible in order to retain its natural lanolin, especially with LANACare products. When your LANACare woolen product becomes wet, just let air-dry or dry over a mild heat source. You'll notice the cleansing smell of lanolin. The lanolin goes to work on the bacteria, as the moisture evaporates away.

Hocosa woolens also contain natural lanolin. After wear, hang your woolens to air-dry overnight. The natural lanolin will cleanse away odors. Wash them when you feel you need to … you may be able to go weeks between washings, even with daily wear.

Small spots can be cleaned by rinsing the spot under the faucet in lukewarm water. When necessary, wash gently by hand in lukewarm water, Hocosa and LANACare woolens alike, with LANACare lanolin-replenishing soap. Always use lukewarm water - cold water, as well as hot water, shocks the wool fibers and may result in shrinking and felting. Gently squeeze out water, then place or roll in a towel, to press out excess water. Larger items, as blankets or Hocosa clothing, can be spun in the washer (on spin cycle only) to remove excess water. Give your wool product a quick shake, to regain its form and elasticity, and place or hang to dry, preferably over a mild heat source, such as on top of a running dryer. If you live in a humid climate, the use of dry heat is important, since natural wool can absorb up to 40% of its weight without feeling wet. In extremely humid climates, the wool may even absorb moisture from the air! In this case, the wool might tolerate a very short time in a dryer on low heat, to hasten drying, but as a rule, Never tumble dry!

If pilling should occur with LANACare products, natural bristle brushes or specially designed wool brushes can be used to smooth out wool surface.

Please see separate Care Instructions for Nursing Pads.

Placing natural wool in direct sunlight to dry could slightly discolor the natural wool.
