Danish LANACare

LANACare was created by Danish nurse, Jeannette Almstrøm, in 1990.  Having a professional background in textile & design, as well, she found the perfect combination for her talents.

LANACare’s mission is to dress our children and breast-feeding mothers in organic, mulesing-free, extremely soft and comfortable merino wool, to bring well-being and comfort for mother and baby.  Jeannette’s passion grew out of her own experience of being the mother of 3.  She saw wool as a natural and perfect material for newborns.  Organic wool is breathable and soft against the skin.  It’s non-irritating and can have a calming effect on a tiny newborn.   Wool is not only good for humans, it’s also a good choice for the environment, as it is a sustainable and environmentally friendly material.  LANACare chooses only pure and untreated wool in the production of their products.  Moreover, they aim to work with farmers who take good care of both their animals and the soil.

LANACare aims to be frank and open regarding the process of production.  The organic wool fibers used in LANACare products traces to Argentina, the Patagonia fields, where the wool is picked from carefully selected farmers with healthy sheep, who graze freely in fields where no pesticides nor fertilizers are used.  Mulesing is not allowed.  The wool is then processed in Germany, following the highest quality and organic standards.  The certified wool then reaches LANACare’s production facility, now located in Lithuania.  The woolen yarn is then knitted, brushed and sewn into the final garments. Though LANACare production originally took place in Denmark, Jeannette moved to Lithuania in the early 2000’s, a fellow European Union nation across the Baltic. Scandinavian standards of creating a friendly, positive work environment for each employee are held, where each employee contributes to creating the final products of highest quality.

LANACare uses only organic wool that is strictly certified, chemically untreated.  Certified organic wool is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides from plants or animals.  In biber processing, critical common chemical treatments are regulated.  The substances used in dyes must be authorized by the certification agencies as neither health-threatening to humans nor harmful to the environment.
